DEHRADUN: In what is being termed as good news for those looking forward to adopt a child, the social welfare department of Uttarakhand has placed all the details of orphan children online. These will be available on the website of Central Adoption Resource Authority (CARA).

Earlier, those wanting to adopt a child from Uttarakhand had to face a tough time because they had to visit various shelter homes and then Dehradun, for adoption. Generally, the adoption process entailed tedious meetings and legal works. Now, the modality for adoption has been made easy with the entire responsibility of verification of would-be parents and legalities associated with adoption being taken care of by the CARA.

All that people who want to adopt have to do is to apply online on the website of CARA, wherein they can select the Uttarakhand option and then, scan the details of the children before selecting a child for adoption. CARA will take care of further process.
Implementing another important feature to enhance transparency and vigilance, the department has decided to link up all private as well as public organizations having orphan children with the adoption agency, CARA. Thus, the organizations will be liable to put up details of all the children online and remain under the scanner of CARA.

At present, only four shelter homes in Uttarakhand are authorized to put up children for adoption but the department has decided to bring eight other organizations under the scanner.

Uttarakhand social welfare department director Vishnu Dhanik said, "The security and safety of children is above all and we are moving a step closer to it by going online. It was a much needed step to maintain transparency in the system, When it comes to infants and juveniles, we cannot compromise."

In the latest move all the district probation officers and officials of social welfare department have been trained by CARA in Uttarakhand.
