Holy Moly Ghana this is not a solution!

In daily danger, being abused, lost, insecure. This is madness and I hope the international adoption community comes down on them.

Shocked and so sorry for those poor children.

Gov’t closes down 89 orphanages

Some 89 orphanages have been closed down by the government as part of moves to discourage further setting up of homes in the country.

The Gender, Children and Social Protection Minister, Nana Oye Lithur said the government has also approved high fee of GH?5000 for the licensing of orphanages and GH?2000 for renewal.

She said the move is to discourage people from further establishing orphanages in the country.

Responding to performance audit query against the ministry’s management of orphan homes before Parliament’s Public Accounts Committee, Tuesday, Nana Oye noted the ban would equally ensure the implementation of the ministry’s Care Reform Initiative.

The initiative was started in 2007 to provide protection for orphans in the country.

Meanwhile, ranking member on the Public Accounts Committee, Ibrahim Dey told Joy FM’s Parliamentary correspondent Elton Brobbey that the government must come out with a policy to care for children born to mentally challenged mothers roaming the streets of Ghana.
